Health and Safety Law for Managers and Supervisors

Ontario’s Occupational Health and Safety Act (OHSA) requires Managers and Supervisors to be “competent”  

This one day course has been developed to provide managers and supervisors in organizations with working knowledge of their Ontario occupational health and safety duties as required by the Occupational Health and Safety Act.

The Occupational Health and Safety Act requires that employees appointed as “supervisors” be “competent”.  Supervisory employees may include any management employee that has “charge of a workplace or authority over a worker”.

In order to be “competent” a supervisor must be a person that:

(a) is qualified because of knowledge, training and experience to organize the work and its performance,

(b) is familiar with this Act and the regulations that apply to the work, and

(c) has knowledge of any potential or actual danger to health or safety in the workplace;

This course is designed assist in meeting the requirements of items (b) and (c) above and also ensure that managers/supervisors have the knowledge required to play their role in maintaining a healthy and safe workplace and protect employees.

By understanding and carrying out their duties Managers and Supervisors will be able to play the crucial role in the overall management of health and safety and the control of health and safety hazards in the workplace.
